Le Terre del Verde estate, besides its unquestionable resources and beauty of nature, preserved works of art which
bear witness to its thousand year history. Such history you will find the heart of the St. Peter's church. Built
in 1006 it contains some of the great works of historical value. From these we remember the portrait of Beato
Egidio of Assisi from the first half of the XVIII century (artist unknown) and the Crucifixion of St. Peter,
which was commissioned by the Signorelli family (Commendatory Abbot) to the artist Simone Ciburri (one of the
most important Umbrian artists) in the first half of the 1600s.
From the same period there is also another portrait in the abbey, depicting St. Anna who is offering an open book
to the adolescent virgin.
These last two works were kept for a brief period in another building, which is also of great religious historical
value on the Terre del Verde estate, that of the church of St. Anna.
Built around 1350 it was and still is today an important place for the pilgrims connected to the cult of St. Anna
(26th July).
This church was historically linked to the Castle of Frecco, the nearby fortification which for hundreds of years
supplied a safe shelter for the inhabitants of Gualdo from the attack of Perugia.
Built between the end of the X and the start of the XI century it was already mentioned in the chronicles of the
Lombard period, when Otto III invaded and plundered the city of Tadino. On this occasion the defenceless walls of
the fortress defended and protected (probably for the first time) the families of the city.
